just back home from tk band prac, alumni band prac, and philyouth prac. haha been such a long time since i practised so hard! more than 8 hours straight! quite happy with myself, though its super tiring. i want this life to be back. haha.

haha. finally felt like updating for abit. =x
may 23 2010.
so. jan 9 till now.. it has been around.. 5 months?
happy anniversary =)
yeah.. so basically, im like going thru the ops training.. 2 more months and i'm through!

left with..

- EX all out (DAMN ITS ON MY 21st BIRTHDAY D=)

- brunei trip (sigh)
- 72km route march
- red beret presentation!

and of course, ops ops ops, and its 350 days to ORD from today! =)

though its sian, being stuck in camp and all..

sigh, my uni applications are zero, zip, nada this year again..

"damn, regretted not studying hard enough, too much time into my bands"

yeah anyway on a lighter note, been watching K-On!
its a rather cute show, haha and kinda reminds me of sp jazz band..
especially last time when we were still a tiny band..
lots of similarities.. haha for my batch at least la..

like.. we always stay in the clubhouse somehow almost everyday, chit chat, eating =x
dont practise as much as symphonic band but somehow we sound kinda amazing during performances..
and oh, we got a talented pianist xD

=p

been practising trumpet semi-regularly(abt 1 proper practise a week, and just some long tones and scales in camp if i have the time).. and just had tk alumni practice today..
i'd say its rather satisfying for now.. i need to improve, get back my form faster!
let's just say that i don't sound as cui as.. when i first touched the trumpet after my BMT..

i hope this 6 months will get past really really fast...

basically, first day was enlistment.. got there, swear-in ceremony,
got our hair ~~cut~~shaved (ugh) and stuff..

then the hall darkens, started playing their recorded intro..

when they came in and played their first song,
the whole audience in the esplanade stood up (including us. monkey see, monkey do)
yeah and started clapping, jumping, shouting, screaming!

omg lots of shouting and all damn nice!

(oh. btw, just behind us is the mixing station.. there's a mosaic crew who fell asleep there.. (with earmuffs) its amazing how he slept all through that noise..

hhaa later i found out that pimpoint was sold out.. so.. i was one of the lucky few who got it first! (nah, didnt get the shirt. not worth it)

today's finally the day..

TK band syf day!

early morning went to tk. haa

shocking though, me and daniel are the only trumpet alumnis there..
what happened to the more hardcore ones?

then went SCH..

spied around there,,
ran up a hidden staircase, questioned by ushers downstairs, ran upstairs..
and got up the door and the guard there chased us, we went up while he went down
should have used that spy tactic. lols.

got to the roof of SCH! how many people has seen that actually? xD

anyways, we went back down to the lobby and melted into the crowds. back to square one.

got into the hall anyway.. with tickets =_=

listened the bands and stuff,
and finally our band.
last band before the intermission..

lols. after that, went down to the starbucks opposite SCH and chilled.
went back to get results.
the situation there..
suddenly i had a wave of.. recollection..
the exact same situation.
everyone expected a GWH,
last band b4 intermission,
and finally, the only gold band in the session..
everyone(other schools) cheered for us and we sat there sian.. =x

early morning, went to bukit timah by bus..
only to reach the exam venue uber early..
okay la. not that early.

went into the examroom soon after. OMG ITS FULL OF LITTLE KIDS!
me and raymond (and the girl sitting at the back corner) are prolly the oldest candidates there.. zzzz.. whats with it man..

anyways, it was an alright paper, easier than the mock exams. and i didnt know how to do a whole section about intervals =_= there goes 10 marks, with 1 more mark on the... double bar line in my composing zzzzzzzzzzz

anyways, thanks to angeline's bf who gave us a ride back to an MRT station..

then me and raymond drove our "car with a T" down to the NEAREST petrol station which was like an hour's trip away beside fairfield pri sch..

compare our ride with his ride. hey it has 4 wheels too right!
filled the tires with air. heee its ready for tml!

went off.. to the IT fair. YET again.
haha this time is a rescue mission..

whoa.. first in our group to reach 20...lol!

then ended up packing late.. =_=
with the driver waiting and stuff.

anyways. long journey there..

then reached Roland Restaurant.
big problem.. because of the big bus..
the driver just cant find a place to drop us off..
haa. in the end found one, after making so many detours..

nearly late for the performance..
alot of energy used for shifting the equipment up..

oh. we acquired a new trolley! xD
with a dollar!

haha. not bad performance..
however, the set we prepared for was too short..
then we added songs randomly..
luckily it went well..

someone suggested us to play "tennessee waltz" then the MP Chan who heard it (same table which was right infront of us) chuckled and commented that "that song is from his father's era and we couldnt possibly play" and everyone laughed. LOL

shook hands with mr chan again!
so cool.. heheheh

glad they were happy with our performance..

and free lunch! liek the normal chinese banquet stuff..

ok la. there was shelter all the way to around 50m left for us to walk in the rain.
we're no problem, INSTRUMENTS ARE BIG PROBLEM!!
so.. got 3 umbrellas from the bus..
and started shielding the instruments from the rain.
big instrument = big problem.
got nami to run to NTUC across the road to get some huge black plastic bags,
put them over leslie's FAT ASS and the drums, and whatevers and carried them up the bus..
cool eyy hahahha

well. so much for braving in the rain. im wet again. and freezing in the bus =_=
worsened my cold.. zzzz kept on sneezing and stuff..

ha. moved stuff back.
went down to esplanade to catch some freee performances at the concourse.
the theme for that day was free jazz...
there's this band called "game of patience" which is a trio consisting of a drummer, tenorsax and doublebassist.
they dun play any music.
made random sounds on their instruments (squeaks, knocks, blahs)
one song in the whole 45 min set,
and just made up of random acoustic/electronic(they had macs) sounds..
like.. 0.0
really is a game of patience..
first half hour, me and raymond sat there and switched off le..
then was sending vincent random jokes on sms like "later the sax guy suddenly appears in yamaha" and stuff like that. hahahaa

dinner after that..

and went home. too sick to continue watching =_=

yay. feels better today.
morning went for enrolment performance again..

another good performance.
we had this fun idea about medleys..
starting with the G-F riff
and played chocobo theme, and tequila. then we linked to alot alot of songs.
even xmas and cny songs.

so had a long chat/consultation with Yoke Lim..
got the trumpet's future set out..
it has a bright future! even after 20 years(hey, same age as me!)
planned: change the leadpipe, tuning slide, chemical cleaning and general corking..
will take about $560..
will play much better than a brand new trumpet..
of course, vintage is best! =D

he let me try alot of other trumpets too.. like..
Doc Severinsen's GetZen trumpet,
few more stuff... i didnt remember clearly..
but they play really well..
but i think the new(old actually) vintage trumpet will play much better after the overhaul..

reached there pretty early, 7am..

yay happy chinese new year everyone!!
hope everyone has a blessed new year! (and goes to everyone.. even to non-chinese friends too! =D)
yay. the most important festival of the chinese!
on a side note *wish everyone get loads of angpaos too!*(though its not the main significance of the festival though*
lols.. well mine is filled with lots of.. Om Nom Nom.....

so early morning went to my maternal grandparents house as usual every year to have the vegetarian food =D its so nice for the past 19 years (and more.)

then stoned there while sis and mum and uncle/cousin and sis played mahjong. sis won like.... zomgs...

okay moving on, to granduncle's house..

but this year's visit was cut short by alot..
his usual fortune-telling lecture is so short!
we were pressed for time, apparently..
through so many years.. i've come to realise that visits to his house turned from a dread (uhh boring.. last time. always fell asleep and stuff) to a very interesting and mystical one...prolly coz.. wanna know things and change things ahead of time before it hits me and i sink..

rushing on,, next up was the big rush to woodlands.. my eldest aunt's house..
she had a buffet-style spread for dinner..

its a miracle i stayed awake throughout the whole movie after all that alcohol..

i've been waiting so long for this day!
the first ever jazz band concert.. (er, first ticketed sit-down concert..)

so its alot of rushing here and there from 1-6pm.. planning and chionging.. and thankfully i have a team(band?) of really cooperative and understanding band members (whom i've termed as "friends") who gladly helped out and stuff without complaints. and everything went clockwork like a franck muller watch(lols i actually made that description =_=)..

preparing all the stuff. busy ppl..

so 6.30++, the show is starting... AND MR YEE WENT MISSING!!!!!!
zz then we were about to start without him for the 0th song (our buffer/coming-in/settling-down song then he appeared again. then everything went smoothly all the way.. =)

the whole concert was very well-spirited and stuff, esp the combo band part.. =D
too bad my lost parents and bro and sis made it only for the 2nd half..
hahaa cool then ending the concert i made a big stupid but important speech (what a president must do right?), introducing each and everyone of the band and thanking individuals..

and im very glad that the audience exited the hall with very positive remarks about the concert.. =DD

let's make Improvise 2 a better concert! ^_^

well.... we've come a very very long way for this to materialise..
one month, for the whole big band..
and 4-5 months, for the rest of the jazz band..
and 3 long years for me, from a wannabe(okay. NOOB) trumpeter in year 1, sem 1..
thru this 4-5 months,
lots of ups and downs, people entering and leaving,
lots of tense moments, lots of heated discussions and craps
lots of crap to do and plan, on top of our rehearsals, our own schedules..
i just wanna thank the many people that made this possible.. (the really pivotal ones for the concert). (wonder if anyone of u will be reading this.. please tag if u do)
first off, the most important of all,

our club officer Ning-jie! (first time im calling u that? =p)
well, think that she's put up with more crap than us, answering to her higher-ups, especially for our near-outrageous requests for those instruments and stuff that took her(and us) months to send the whole proposals through..

our club advisor Mr Yee..
well. without you, there's no sp jazz band.. all the support u gave us,
all the scoldings u gave me.. "shi chun! what u playing?!?!" whenever i take up a solo..
if not, i'll still be the same nooby noob as i was in year 1..

if only i can be as pro and cool as you...

many bands(and their performances) sucked coz they just played notes, or their songs are so hard that they were concentrating too much on getting the notes right than performing actually.. and concentrating too much on it may bring about a negative result actually..

finally its concert day..

5+ time for dinner! its finally an MD dinner without chicken talk! cool, its a little pack of fried beehoon and some little fishcakes or whatever. and a pack of green tea flavoured water. hehehehe

found out that me and tiac are down with flu. so took a stroll down to boat quay for some panadol.. took a stroll there to calm my senses for the emotionally draining 3rd symphony later..

=X the stroll i took was effective.
I calmed down alot after the stroll. Mind was clear during performance..

concert started soon after,
(lols, the concert from a performer's view?)
First half was alright.
Vincent's duet song was nice.. Alot of shredding lol..

Then alumni band.. one of the best jap graf 12 ever..

During the intermission, went up to the vip area for reception. well principal wanted to see the jazz band committee who's performin too.

2nd half.. Is the symphony. I can say its my best 40 mins of my trumpeting life so far..

First movement was really frightening. And i felt pain. Could feel it from the first 2 notes of jin kun's tuba solo..
And from all the blasting.
And my heart cringed when i see mr tan conduct like that. He was, the whole band was really feelin the music.. As i flashback i can still feel it.. =/

Second Movement,
i was blank from the 241 bar rest (-_-)

Third movement. Mr tan conduct like that again..

Dunno. that song was so beautiful i was holding back my tears as i counted my bars and listening to the english horn oboe french horn bari sax solos..omg Was so beautiful.

And at the end of first and 3rd movement was this fade away to silence. It was a very long one..

Fourth movement was the best. Everyone just played their hearts out. Hehe..

Don't care about encore. And give presents and all to mr tan and all emo emo.

Haha. After playin third symphony (RAWR! the full symphony! not some nooby "one movement only"), everyone got somewhat like enlightened =x made everything else so easy..

so.. as u can see, its a teppanyaki restaurant..
aunt ordered everything.. so im nt really sure about the price and the name of the food.. so lets get on with it anyway..

haha, so the first one was this greeny thingy called soup. apparently its scallop soup but dunno why its green. prolly coz its spinach? it didnt taste too bad, it was more generic seafood taste than scallop..

then next was the salad. a healthy mix of greens and reds.. could have been more though =X
well. wat can salad taste like.. veggies right =_=

and the appetizer.. a prawn with seared scallop and greens..
wished that they had more of that =x its good!

finally the main course.. which are meat meat and more meat..
didnt take a photo of it =x whoops, too engrossed in eating it. its good.. good..
=9 wagyu wagyu.. whack u.. =\

its dessert after that..
so we have a honeyed fried banana.
looks a bit like.. nuggets?
it tasted alright, though the one at the revolving restaurant (Prima if im not wrong)
was much better..

and a custard pudding with caramel.. it was not bad too, ^_^

well. i'd recommend this place for its food..
but the price is a killer for most of us (students) here..
the bill for 7 of us was.. $300 plus. 0.0

woooooooooooooooooo.

i'd come back again. someday..

P.S. what im disappointed in this place, is that they DIDNT GIVE ME BEANSPROUTS!!!!!
i thought they're like mandatory in teppanyaki?!

well. avionics practical shifted early today..

well today we tried our hands on soldering..
then this process is called "tinning" and we're supposed to coat the copper tracks with solder to ensure a better electrical conductivity, blah..
then i did the first 3 lines.. and cher saw and said i was like genius, and told the class if want to see example, should see mine.
at the same time, there was some chinese oldies playing..
then some guy in the class plugged in his ipod and started playing hiphop or whatever..
then after that 8-9th line i start to deteriorate. to a point i cant do anymore. zzzz

and so i did my own drills too.. lip drills.

no MOF with mummy =X sigh

went back and studied on some scores when mr Siao told me to take the sec 1s and 2s for combined as mr Neo wasnt there..

so i reluctantly agreed as its my first try.

we attached a camera to the plane today..

and test flew it around the stadium..
second flight: 4mins and 30 secs.

well. rushed to school early in the morning..
FYP again. today we did the fibreglass coating for the top part.
*stinks!*

then as we waited for the resin to dry, i went for brass sectionals.. lol did nothin much in general, just played and played..

after that, went down to PS to get a quick bite and as i was waiting for the bus 16, someone familiar found me: D1! haha what a coincidence!

so i reached tk around 5.30, saw kenneth teaching the sec 1 tpts. lols
should be alright bah. he's like so much better than me.. hope they can learn sth from him too..

alumni band prac at 7*im so hungry*..
played a couple of songs..
the usual merry widow, and other stuff.
and this song called "Soran Funk" which has a kickass trumpet adlib solo!
heheheehee

went to Aston's for dinner with Jet.
its not bad, and cheap for what they serve. (summarised: worth the money) hehehe

today afternoon at Sp field, Team Leviathan has a major breakthrough!

we changed the CG of the plane, and with a bit more modifications (assisted with someone from the aviation club)

currently our landing gear has some alignment problem, so we took it out and hand-launch it.
and magically,

IT FLEW! IT FINALLY FLEW!!
Leviathan's Maiden Flight: 1 Minute and 32 Seconds.
its just too beautiful to see it fly..
and (what Adi said) *a heavy load "flew" off our shoulders*
hehe. just in time, for the presentation tomorrow..

so i offered a free tour around it. since she like to walk so much she readily accepted and soon completed the tour abt 4-5pm.

then went down to simlim as i made my decision to get the trumpet mic. so i got my mic! hehe its a Sennheiser e608 instrument mic =D

today's 10/10!
symphonic band day today.. hmm.
well before band, went for dinner with aunt, mum and sis..
hehe. the food at raffles place was alright for me, and the drink is some juice mix with a whole lot of chunks of fruit and stuff and i found it interesting =)

well, after the dinner, aunt ordered a whole bottle of wine and i got hold of a glass or two. hehehehehehehehe!

i'm not drunk! x1

tonight went for supper at the usual place (as usual),
and tried the new western food stall.. hehe
been promising the shop uncle to try his lamb grill..
its damn good! (though fats were too much and i had to cut, but what do u expect, its the choice cuts.. like the ribs. hehe)

ha, finally its back to tk band!
went there early in the morning,
teach abit of sectionals (hope it helped)

and soon its like lunch..

back to band...
went for sectionals with the sec 2s and 3s..
then sec 2s went up for combined, and left with jitxin and quanfeng so we had a "music appreciation" session..

then went up for combined.
this is the first time i'm having so much fun in tk band!

we sightread some pieces, like Folk Song Suite, Please Give Me Wings (omg Please Dont Remind Me Of That), Shenandoah, Orpheus In The Underworld, Charming Asia, and whatevers..
fun fun fun! hehehehehe!

well, went down to marina to meet hinfan and weisiew..
dinner, walked, esplanade, boat quay, clarke quay..
got ourselves a drink each at a bar, then walked over to brewerkz to get another jug.

got aunt a pair of safety specs(for her work), and found company for pumps.. zzzz why are micropumps so hard to find??!?!

went to the Games Convention Aisa (GCA) at suntec for a quick look..
its pretty small and quiet for a regional convention..
hmm. attraction #1 for me is the EA booth, where they're showing Red Alert 3 trailers! omg man! im so getting a copy when it releases. but NO WAY im getting the preorder. its $219! with some backpack and dunno what.. =\

#2 was at the EA booth too, the comp terminal where they have The Sims 2, where i ordered all the happy sims to get to the kitchen and deleted the doors, and everyone was trapped, then made them drink alot of expresso. you'll know the results =)

#3 was also at the EA booth, they had this stage-like section set up and they were exhibiting Rock Band, 10 months late. =_=
anyway i tried the game, with my DMGF skillz. too bad i cant stay for the competition..

had breakfast at PS with bro, got some stuff (and a good DM credit)

and so met sherlynn and isabel and her friend (rebecca, if my memory serves me well)
at isabel's condo's lobby to fix the loose sax neck. apparently someone sneaked a washer between the slit where its supposed to be open.. took it out, greased it well (to not make it stuck), and tadaa~ its done! (not much of a repair though) hmm. but its like super worn out =\ well wat do u expect from an old school instrument? =x

well, what happened is that normally after a repair, i'll test the instrument generally to see if its "airworthy"(in aeronaut aspect la, or "showworthy?" "bandworthy?" =_=) and i found that the last 2 keys (the 2 levers u operate with ur right pinky) and some more (the buttons u operate with ur left pinky)
cannot be depressed. one look at the affected pads.. ZOMG they're out of alignment!
now i cant do anything about it without risking a snapped pad or two so.. thats my limit. =( so sorry for not finishing up the whole repair!

met the philyouth ppl (5 clar and 2 more tpts) for a quick (errr 3 hours?) lan fix. hehe like dotaed (where i got like pwned =_= with amusing results) and x hero siege lols! too bad though i was craving for some headshots in CS/BF2. next time bahz. lols (is it cheap for me to shoot the guy in the head? is it cheap for me to use my name in the game?) xD

took a really long walk from there to east coast where the rest had a bbq (chalet) lols. we had quite some fun (and weiners, along with winners)

lols, after bidding them farewell, me, mar, terry went to the mac's area and got ourself some pool party (not the CS map). lols quite good, =p
